Volunteer Opportunities at the YWCA
Adult Education
Tutors – looking for 1: 1 or small group tutoring, usually once a week at a scheduled time to help adult to improve their essential skills.
Snacks – Most of our adult learners in Aylmer and St. Thomas live in poverty. Our classes need snacks and nourishment, especially by month end. If a group could once in a while deliver some snacks, it would be greatly welcomed.

Youth Action Alliance / Stomp out Smoke
Need volunteer hours? Interested in making change?
Stomp Out Smoke is a group of youth committed to spreading the message about tobacco industry product use and healthy lifestyle choices in the community and we are looking for volunteers. Volunteering gives you a great reference for your resume, all of the hours you require to graduate from secondary or post-secondary institutions, experience that will help you in the future, and the opportunity for employment at Stomp Out Smoke. Stomp-Out-Smoke is a YWCA program, partnered with Elgin St. Thomas Public Health and run out of the Talbot Teen Centre, 745 Talbot Street. We can offer up to nine hours of volunteering a week. We ONLY hire from our volunteers when a paid position is available! Adult and youth volunteer positions are available!

Girlspace - looking for strong female role models (youth or adults) to assist with program implementation and delivery. Weekly commitment. Contact Lindsay Grondin-Rice
Summer Camp - looking for youth age 13 to 16 to volunteer during July and August at summer day camp. Students should have an interest in children, recreation, being active, and developing their leadership skills. Contact Jen Kovacs.
Recreational Programs - looking for youth & adults to volunteer during the school year at various recreation based programs for children across Elgin County. Programs vary and may include active games, sports, crafts and cooperative activities for children. (Ex. Open Gym, Afterschool Recreation etc.)

Residence
Maintenance - Help with maintenance inside building, once per week. e.g. changing light bulbs, fixing door locks, toilets, sinks.
Outside Maintenance - cutting lawn, weed eating, weeding flower beds as required.
Winter - snow shoveling of walkways, salting sidewalks
Movers - Help with larger items including tables, furniture etc. – only as needed.
