Youth Engagement Program (YEP)

What is YEP?

The YWCA Youth Engagement Program is offered throughout the year with multiple intakes.

We are currently accepting applications for the Youth Engagement Project.  The project is slated to begin January 14th, and run for 25 weeks, with a second intake starting immediately.

This paid program assists young adults with transitioning to the workforce and gaining hands on job related skills.  Program participants are between the ages of 15 and 30 and are out of work and out of school with a barrier to employment.  YEP participants receive job related training, life skills training, coaching and mentoring on and off the job.

There are two components to the project: Paid On Site Work Experience, and Group Based Employability Skills Workshops.  All participants are trained in First Aid/CPR, High Five®, Safe Food Handlers, and WHMIS.

Participant placements include positions in food services, customer service, child and youth programming, childcare, recreation, retail, warehouse, and maintenace.  Participants are paid minimum wage throughout the length of their contract and a completion bonus is given to those who qualify.

How do I find out more?

Interested youth should be in contact as soon as possible.  We want to begin the screening process for youth engaged with service providers early so we can ensure placements. Pre-screening is completed by Employment Services Elgin, and applications are referred to the YWCA.
