The region of St. Thomas & Elgin County has been significantly impacted by the recent recession. In the best of times, having a stable income or other resources to support a standard of living can be difficult to acquire – harder still to maintain.
Women, especially those living in rural and remote communities, face unique challenges to maintaining economic security. These challenges impact the economic stability and prosperity of the whole family and the community at large.
Through the support of Status of Women Canada, the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin is embarking on a three year project to collaborate in identifying barriers and opportunities to economic security that are unique to women living in our region and to create a community plan for Women’s Economic Security.
