National Philanthropy Day

The YWCA St. Thomas Elgin is pleased to announce that Scotiabank & Sharon and Ron Battley are the winners of the 2012 YWCA Philanthropy Day Award.

The Board of Directors of the YWCA present this annual award to an organization and individual who consistently support YWCA programs through donations and volunteer time.

National Philanthropy Day was first celebrated in 1986 to recognize the importance of philanthropy in our communities.  Nationally, Canadians collectively donate over $10 billion annually and volunteer over 2 billion hours – the equivalent of 1.1 million full time jobs.  Canada became the first county in the world to recognize the day permanently in 2012 and will celebrate nationwide on November 15th every year.

“Simply put, we couldn’t continue to operate our important programs without the generous support of our community,” says Erin Woolley, YWCA St. Thomas Elgin Fund Development & Communications Coordinator.  “National Philanthropy Day gives us the opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations that consistently support our organization and make a difference in the larger community.  The Battleys & Scotiabank and their employees not only support us financially, they continue to give their time and talents to make our organization stronger.  They are wonderful examples of the strong philanthropic spirit that exists in St. Thomas & Elgin County and we are incredibly grateful for their support.”
