Before and After School Program
Discovery Club
Our Discovery Club offers “hands on” activity based experiences for children, within a warm, relaxed environment. The program is designed with flexibility and creativity in order to respond to and complement each child’s school day. This child centred program offers opportunities for decision making and growth towards increased independence and responsibility. Qualified staff provide a variety of stimulating play activities daily.
Our Staff
The YWCA is very fortunate to have highly experienced and qualified staff working in our child care programs. All childcare supervisors in the program have a background in: Early Childhood Education, Child Youth Worker, Recreation and Leisure and/or a related childcare field. Program Assistants may also hold these credentials but they are not a requirement. All staff are trained in High Five principles of healthy childhood development and maintain updated CPR and First Aid certification.
Licensing
A license must be obtained from the Ministry of Community and Social Services to operate a school age child care program. The Day Nurseries Act and its accompanying regulations form the basis of the licensing procedure. All locations are inspected and licensed by the ministry on an annual basis.
